Description of the Gatling Blade
Gatling is a right-spin BU Blade released with the B-199 Gatling Dragon Karma Charge Metal’-10 Booster as part of the Burst Ultimate system on June 25th, 2022.
The Gatling Blade Gimmick
This Blade has a circular shape with a semi-aggressive design, featuring a side blade on each side. These side blades can be released during battle when the combination is in Low Mode, creating a more aggressive design meant to increase attack potential.
Each side blade is activated individually, when struck with enough power. Players have to start the battle with both side blades in their original position, which is the “Slash Mode“. Both blades have the same design : each feature a “dragon head”, and a “dragon tail”. When the protruding “dragon tail” part is struck with enough force, the “dragon head” comes out of the Gatling Blade, releasing the side blade. Once the side blade is released, it can move back and forth, creating the “Barrage Mode“. When players have to start a battle, they need to push the dragon head back in place manually to “reset” the gimmick.
See the pictures below for Slash Mode and Barrage Mode :
Unfortunately, some copies of this Blade have bad molds : one side blade will move freely instead of being locked in one of the two possible positions. Moreover, the system is easily damaged, resulting in one or both side blades remaining stuck or unable to be locked in place.
In reality, the gimmick is not very effective, even a good copy of Gatling does not show any substantial improvement in attack power when the “Barrage Mode” is triggered.
If the Gatling Blade is assembled in High Mode, it will be locked in Slash Mode and won’t be able to perform the Barrage Mode.
Performances
Intended to be an attack oriented Blade, Gatling design is not aggressive enough to be consistent in attack type combinations. However, it features decent stamina potential, meaning that it can be used in stamina oriented combos with some degree of success.
Final Thoughts
This Blade is best used in stamina combinations, but it cannot be considered as top tier. While the gimmick can be fun, it doesn’t really improve attack potential when triggered.
Therefore, Gatling is not a must have for competitive players, but it can be a nice addition to any player’s collection as a stamina oriented component.
