Description of 3-85 Ratchet
First released with Knight Mail 3-85BS from the UX-10 Customize Set U as part of the Xtreme Gear Sports Unique Line system on November 2nd, 2024, 3-85 (or Three Eighty Five) is a Ratchet from the Beyblade X generation.
The number “3” refers to the number of protrusions along the Ratchet’s perimeter, therefore 3-85 has three protrusions. In Beyblade X, Ratchets protrusions are acting as weak points for burst attacks, therefore players have to make sure the protrusions of the ratchet are not too exposed.
The number 85 refers to the Ratchet height, which in this case is 8,5mm. Furthermore, intermediate height Ratchets such as 3-85 have a simple, “O” shaped lock instead of a regular one. This different lock makes the Ratchet lighter : 3-85 weighs 4,7 g while 3-80 weighs 7 grams.
Furthermore, these “simple” locks are advertised as having a better Burst resistance. Unfortunately, our testing sessions with these components show the opposite, with a clear tendency to Burst more often than the standard lock Ratchets. 3-85 being very tall, Burst risk is further increased.
Final Thoughts
At the time of writing, this taller, lighter intermediate variant of “3” Ratchets cannot be recommended for competitive players.
The poor Burst resistance created by its tall height may even make this option frustrating for non competitive use.
