Description of Under Needle
First released in the UX-13 Booster Golem Rock 1-60UN as part of the Xtreme Gear Sports Unique Line system on January 25th, 2025, Under Needle (or UN) is a Defense type Bit. This Bit is a low variant of Needle.
UN has a very small, sharp tip protruding from the gears part of the Bit, thus lowering the height of this component.
The word “Under” is a new type of variant, being 2 mm lower than the standard height. Previously, players were used to see “Low” variants, such as Low Flat or Low Orb, sitting 1 mm below the standard height. Therefore, at the time of writing, “Under” Bits are the lowest variants available.
The sharp tip of Under Needle creates a stationary behavior, making it easier to keep the combination inside the central area of the Stadium. Furthermore, the low height of this component will help increase Burst resistance in any combination, making the Ratchet less exposed.
However, like most Defense type Bits, the sharp tip also creates low friction and poor Knock-out resistance. In theory, the lower friction increases Stamina potential. In Beyblade X however, with most of the weight distributed towards the top of the combination, sharp tips also result in a severe risk of destabilization. A destabilized Beyblade tilts and wobbles, losing its balance and eventually falling on the Stadium floor.
Therefore, the high stamina potential of Defense type Bits does not translate well in Battle, making Defense type combos fairly easy to destabilize and thus outclassed for competitive use.
However, the very low height of Under Needle could make it more interesting in the future. The release of various components such as the Assist Blade Wheel, the Bit Wall Ball or the Blade Clock Mirage seems to show the intent of making taller combinations more viable, even in a competitive environment.
For example, Clock Mirage is easily the Blade with the best stamina potential, although its tall height makes it prone to Burst Finishes. Under Needle can already mitigate Burst risk, while still being able to out-spin top tier combinations such as Wizard Rod 9-60 Ball.
Therefore, Under Needle is too risky to use in the current state of the meta game, although it could find use in the future, depending on the future releases : the evolution, use and role of tall and low combinations in the meta game.
Final Thoughts
Under Needle cannot be considered as a must have for competitive players in the current meta game.
However, the very low height of this Bit is definitely worth experimenting with, allowing players to create good to great Stamina/Defense type combinations.
