Description of M-85 Ratchet
First released with BX-44 Booster Tricera Press M-85BS as part of the Xtreme Gear Sports Unique Line system on June 28th, 2025, M-85 (or M Eighty Five) is a Ratchet from the Beyblade X generation.
Similarly to “5” type Ratchets, such as 5-60 or 5-70 and 5-80, M-85 has five protrusions, identical to those found on “5” type Ratchets. What makes M-85 different is the addition of metal : it features a unique metal ring, riveted in the center of the Ratchet.
As a result, M-85 is the heaviest Ratchet at the time of writing, weighing approximately 10,6 grams. Furthermore, since the metal ring is located around the center of the Ratchet, M-85 also increases Inward -or Central- Weight Distribution. This weight distribution can improve knock-out resistance.
The number 85 refers to the Ratchet height, which in this case is 8,5mm. Additionally, intermediate height Ratchets such as 3-85 have a simple, “O” shaped lock instead of a regular one.
Furthermore, these “simple” locks are advertised as having a better Burst resistance. Unfortunately, our testing sessions with these components show the opposite, with a tendency to Burst more often than the standard lock Ratchets. M-85 being very tall, Burst risk is further increased.
Final Thoughts
At the time of writing, this taller, heavier intermediate variant of “5” Ratchets cannot be recommended for competitive players. The poor Burst resistance created by its tall height may even make this option frustrating for non competitive use.
However, its heavy weight could find competitive use in the future, depending on future releases as well as the evolution of the meta game.
