Description of Wizard Rod 5-70DB
Released as a Booster as part of the Xtreme Gear Sports Unique Line system on March 30th, 2024, Wizard Rod 5-70 Disk Ball is a right-spin stamina type combination.
As all Unique Line models, this Beyblade features resin launcher hooks instead of the regular metal ones seen on Basic Line Models. This further increases Outward Weight Distribution, a characteristic that significantly improves stamina and attack potential.
Unique Line models also have a gimmick : Wizard Rod whole theme is based on high centrifugal force, featuring a wide circular Blade as well as a circular guard on its Bit.
As a result, this stock combination has high stamina potential, but it does have a few weaknesses to keep it balanced performance wise.
First of all, the combination is quite tall due to the Ratchet 5-70 and the Bit Disk Ball. The increased height of this combination makes it easier to Burst, especially for agressive attack type combinations.
Furthermore, the circular guard of Disk Ball is so wide that the combo may remain tilted when struck or losing velocity, which further increases Burst risk and reduces stamina. Wizard Rod 5-70 Disk Ball is even more prone to Burst Finishes when used in the Hasbro Xtreme Stadium, its reduced size increasing the chances of Beys colliding early in Battle.
However, the Blade Wizard Rod has very high stamina potential, making the stock combo difficult to beat with other stamina/defense type combinations.
How to Improve Wizard Rod
As mentioned above, Wizard Rod has high stamina, making it one the best stamina Blades in Beyblade X. In fact, this component is so efficient that it is banned in 1on1 Battles in official tournaments held by B4 (Takara Tomy). However, it is still allowed in 3on3 Battles.
Therefore, this Blade quickly became popular in tournaments, combined with 9-60 to mitigate Burst risk, but sometimes 3-60 is used instead.
The obvious choice when it comes to the Bit is Ball, although some players like to use Orb instead, allowing them to use Ball in another combo from their Deck.
Another variant which used to be popular -more interesting than the obvious 9-60 Ball combo- is 5-60 combined with the Bit Hexa. However, at the time of writing, Ball remains the safest option available.
Final Thoughts
While this stock combination is too tall because of 5-70 and the Bit Disk Ball, it is still a must-have for players interested in competitive gameplay ; the Blade Wizard Rod is still one of the best options available, more than a year after its initial release.
