Released as the Prize Beyblade of BX-35 Random Booster Vol. 4 as part of the Xtreme Gear Sports Basic Line system on July 13th, 2024, Black Shell 4-60D is a right-spin Defense type combination.

As all Team Pendragon Beyblades, Black Shell is a reference to the team Bladebreakers from the Bakuten Shoot Generation. More precisely, this Beyblade is a reference to Draciel. Additionally, the Gear Chip has the Bakuten Shoot Beyblade logo, just like the other Team Pendragon Beyblades.

Officially labelled as a Defense type Beyblade, the light weight of the Blade Black Shell results in poor knock-out resistance. Moreover, its fairly small size slightly increases Burst risk, which is exacerbated by the Ratchet 4-60. This Ratchet has pronounced protrusions, making it easier to strike and Burst for opposing Beyblades.

Furthermore, the Bit Dot is reminiscent of Needle, both having similar tips. As a result, the sharp tip of Dot makes the combination easy to Destabilize, and also decreases Knock-Out Resistance. Additionally, the dots covering the tip increase friction, resulting in poor stamina potential.

In terms of style and behavior, the increased friction of Dot tends to create erratic, unpredictable movements. While it remains a stationary Bit in essence, the combination will create sudden, short accelerations when tilting or launched at an angle.

As a result, this stock combination offers a unique gameplay, although it tends to suffer from its lack of weight and poor stability.

How to Improve Black Shell

As mentioned above, this Beyblade is fairly small, exposing the Ratchet as a result. Therefore, we strongly recommend to replace 4-60 with 9-60 to increase Burst resistance. 5-60 and 7-60 are decent alternatives if 9-60 is not available.

Since Black Shell light weight creates poor Knock-Out Resistance, it can be interesting to use it in attack oriented combinations. Bits such as Low Rush can be used to lower the combination height, thus increasing Burst resistance and Burst Attack potential.

However, players willing to play Black Shell in Stamina/Defense type combinations may use Free Ball (Stamina) or Wedge with some degree of success.

Overall, this stock combination does not feature any top-tier, competitive component. However, both the Blade and the Bit can provide a unique gameplay in a non-competitive environment.

Therefore, this Beyblade is a nice addition in any Beyblade X collection.
