Description of Bear Scratch 5-60F

Released with BX-37 Double Xtreme Stadium Set as part of the Xtreme Gear Sports Basic Line system on October 12th, 2024, Bear Scratch 5-60F is a right-spin Attack type combination.

Bear Scratch is a retool of the Rhino Horn Blade (Horn Rhino in Hasbro). This means the overall shape and design are very similar to Rhino Horn, albeit with minor differences. Despite a very similar shape and design, this retool is lighter than the original version, with a difference of between 2 and 3 grams depending on the copy.

It features Rhino Horn’s signature compact shape, with four bumpy and irregular sections, each featuring two main contact points.

Although this design is intended to increase defense, the ability to “withstand strong hits” according to Takara Tomy, it is revisited here with an offensive approach, by combining it with the Flat Bit, the very first Attack-type Bit of the Beyblade X generation.

Equipped with the 5-60 Ratchet, the result is an aggressive combo with low stamina and mediocre performance due to the lack of weight from the Bear Scratch Blade.

At under 30 grams, it struggles inherently to consistently knock out opposing combos. Furthermore, the lack of stamina from Flat does not leave this Blade enough time to destabilize opponent combos.

Consequently, this stock combo is primarily designed to be dynamic, fast, and fun, rather than to offer high-tier performance. Its movement speed lends itself well to the stadium it was introduced with, the Double Xtreme Stadium.

How to Improve Bear Scratch

Because Bear Scratch features a very compact design and a very light weight, it is best to favor Bits with extremely high performance in order to compensate for this Blade’s weaknesses and avoid frustration.

Overall, stamina staples—from Ball to Narrow, including Free Ball—work very well, though they will likely require using the 9-60 Ratchet to minimize Burst risk.

For Balance type combinations, Hexa and Kick are two competitive options, and Taper or Unite are also interesting alternatives.

Furthermore, attack staples such as Rush, Low Rush, and Level allow for greater flexibility in Ratchet selection, like 7-60 for instance.

Players looking to emphasize the combo’s fast-paced nature can opt for Bits like Under Flat or Ignition, for instance, which will also increase the opponent combo’s burst potential.

Final Thoughts

Among all the components of this stock combo, only 5-60 is occasionally used in official competition. Currently, the Bear Scratch Blade and the Flat Bit are heavily outclassed for competitive play.
