Description of Knight Fortress GV8-70UN
Released as a Starter as part of the Xtreme Gear Sports Custom Line Expand Blade system on March 28th, 2026, CX-14 Knight Fortress GV8-70UN is a right-spin Defense type combination. The included Launcher is a Winder Launcher.
Knight Fortress is the second Beyblade from the Custom Line Expand Blade (or “Infinity”), featuring a customisable Blade made of four interchangeable parts : the Lock Chip, the Metal Blade, the Over Blade and the Assist Blade.
This stock combo is designed to cushion attacks from opposing Beyblades, offering a traditional defensive style—unlike certain previous Defense type releases that, in reality, lean more toward counter-attacks.
Its defensive potential is primarily generated by the Fortress Metal Blade and the Vertical Assist Blade. The Metal Blade has a relatively smooth perimeter compared to the Knight Mail Blade, for instance, and Vertical creates a 12-sided plastic perimeter meant to help cushion opposing attacks.
Additionally, the Under Needle Bit creates a stationary behavior in the center of the stadium, but the combo remains at a standard height due to the presence of the 8-70 Ratchet. This Beyblade also introduces a new Over Blade, Guard.
In reality, this stock combination suffers from two major weaknesses. The first is undoubtedly its mediocre Burst Resistance, which results from the shape of 8-70, making it very easy for opposing Beys to catch. This issue is exacerbated by the choice of Under Needle, a Defense type Bit which lacks an enlarged shaft to increase Burst Resistance.
The second weakness of Knight Fortress is its overall lack of weight. Although 8-70 is a relatively heavy Ratchet, the other key components -Fortress and Vertical- are both quite light. As a result, the combo is lacking in both stamina and KO resistance.
How to Improve Knight Fortress
At the time of writing, the best options to improve Custom Line Beyblades are the Assist Blades Wheel and Heavy. Wheel is preferred to create Defense/Stamina oriented combinations, while Heavy is the preferred option in agressive Balance/Attack type combos.
To preserve the combo’s defensive identity, we recommend replacing Vertical with Wheel, which will actually fulfill the role of a defensive wall, capable of cushioning opposing attacks and gradually draining the stamina of attack types.
Next, we advise replacing 8-70, as its Burst Resistance is too weak. As a general rule, 9-60 is practically mandatory in CX combos if you opt for a Defense or Stamina type Bit. If you choose an Attack or Balance type Bit, you can then use other Ratchets, such as 7-60 or 1-60.
Regarding the Bit choice, the best options remain Wedge or Under Needle for defense, but Wedge is preferable here so that Wheel sits high enough to be the combo’s primary contact point.
You can also play a ‘Push’ style with Rush or Kick, or of course use Stamina classics like Ball, Free Ball, or Narrow. Since Knight Fortress lacks weight and stability (even when paired with Wheel) Ball might be the safest option. The popular Hexa can also be used to increase Burst Resistance while keeping a stationary behavior.
Finally, players who own the Emperor and Valkyrie Lock Chips can use them to increase KO resistance.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, Knight Fortress is primarily interesting as a traditional defense-type Beyblade, in the sense that it is designed to cushion collisions rather than counter chaotically. Unfortunately, none of its components seem truly essential (as of this writing) for players solely focused on competitive play.
Therefore, Knight Fortress GV8-70UN is a nice addition in any Beyblade X collection.
