Description of Shelter Drake 7-80GP

Released with BX-39 Random Booster Shelter Drake Select as part of the Xtreme Gear Sports Basic Line system on February 15th, 2025, Shelter Drake 7-80GP is a right-spin Balance type combination.

This Beyblade features a high stature, as it introduced the release of 7-80, a Ratchet that sits 2 mm higher than the standard height. Additionally, this stock combo can exhibit fairly unpredictable behavior, despite the Gear Point Bit’s ability to maintain a stationary stance.

The inevitable movement at the start of a Battle is caused by the elliptical shape of the Blade, Shelter Drake.

Consequently, even though the combo is officially classified as a Balance type, its initial behavior at the start of a Battle leans aggressive, with easier Xtreme-Line rides enabled by Gear Point.

Furthermore, the Blade’s elliptical shape combined with its higher stature can cause more frequent destabilization, which is partially mitigated by Gear Point’s stability.

Ultimately, the stock combo is interesting, but its unpredictable movement can be off-putting, and the Blade lacks the weight required to compete with the heavier Blades in Beyblade X. This model reflects the Balance type quite well : it doesn’t particularly shine in attack, stamina, or defense, yet it remains capable of delivering surprising results from time to time.

How to Improve Shelter Drake

Even though 7-80 has the advantage of adding weight to the setup, lowering the combo’s height can be worthwhile for several reasons.

By switching back to a 60 height—or possibly 70—the combo gains stability and becomes somewhat more predictable in its behavior. Furthermore, while Shelter Drake’s profile isn’t specifically designed for attack, it possesses a Burst potential worth looking into, which can be highlighted in lower setups.

Shelter Drake’s elliptical shape suits any type of setup—stamina, attack, and balance Bits can all synergize well with this Blade. However, defense Bits may lack the stability needed to pair effectively with it. Wall Wedge can potentially compensate for the instability inherent to defense-type Bits.

Overall, stamina staples—from Ball to Narrow, including Free Ball—work very well, though they will likely require using the 9-60 Ratchet to minimize Burst risk.

For Balance type combinations, Hexa and Kick are two competitive options, and Taper or Unite are also interesting alternatives. Much like attack staples such as Rush, Low Rush, and Level, they allow for greater flexibility in Ratchet selection, like 7-60 for instance.

However, against optimized attack setups, Shelter Drake’s relatively compact size risks exposing the Ratchet. If that happens, switching to 9-60 is your best option.

Final Thoughts

In short, none of this model’s components are truly essential from a purely competitive standpoint. However, it still offers an original Blade for enthusiasts, as well as a taller variant of one of the best Ratchets currently available, 7-60.
