Metal Universe driver

Description of Metal Universe

Metal Universe is the metal lock version of the Universe performance tip. See our complete article on Universe here.

Compared to its predecessor, Metal Universe is heavier, has better burst resistance, and its free-spinning parts are all spinning more freely compared to those of Universe.

Final Thoughts on Metal Universe

Metal Universe is not a must-have, but it is a very good and useful performance tip nonetheless. It is a great defense type driver, and it can be used in attack combinations in the DB standard stadium. Therefore, Metal Universe is a great addition in any player’s collection.

Metal Universe in the Prominence Phoenix stock combination

Below you will find “important notes about metal drivers”, but our experience with the Metal Universe driver combined with Phoenix DB core in the Prominence Phoenix Tapered Metal Universe-10 hasn’t been a disaster. After months of battles, we can see unusual wear on some teeth of the Phoenix DB core, but the burst resistance of the combination hasn’t changed.

Here is a picture of the Phoenix DB Core teeth after months of battles :

On the left, you can see Unusual wear caused by Metal Universe

My theory is that our copy of Metal Universe is one of the copies with shortened tabs, and the burst resistance offered by the Prominence blade is limiting lock progression, by absorbing the first and strongest hits in the battle. We kept using Metal Universe in this specific combo “Prominence Phoenix Tapered Metal Universe-10” but we would not use Metal Universe on any classic DB core.

Important notes about metal drivers

A metal driver features a lock made of metal instead of plastic. The metal adds weight and a stronger spring, which in theory increases burst resistance. In reality, the metal tabs tend to slide over the layer’s teeth, potentially damaging the teeth in the process. Furthermore, in order to limit the unusual wear metal tabs are causing, the tabs have been shortened, which decreases burst resistance.

However, metal drivers can be useful and safely assembled on the Bahamut and Kerbeus DB cores, which are both featuring rubber slopes instead of plastic teeth. With these two DB cores you can benefit from metal drivers weight and burst resistance without any risk of damage or wear on your layer.

WARNING : Metal performance tips can cause damage and unusual wear on the layer’s teeth, therefore we strongly recommend to avoid using those drivers, unless you have the following options :
1) The safest way to use a metal driver is on the rubber slopes of the Bahamut and Kerbeus DB cores.
2) The other option is to use them on the double-chassis from the Superking system. When combined to a double-chassis, the wear still seem to be a bit unusual and premature, but it remains very limited compared to single chassis and all the traditional layers from the Beyblade Burst Generation.
