Description of Phoenix Wing
First released with the BX-23 Phoenix Wing 9-60GF Starter as part of the Xtreme Gear Sports Basic Line on December 10th, 2023, Phoenix Wing is a right-spin attack type Blade.
This Blade has a three-sided shape, featuring three upward slanting contact points. The center part of the Blade, the Gear Chip, features a red colored phoenix. At the time of writing (January 2024), Phoenix Wing is the heaviest Blade of the Xtreme Gear Sports system alongside Cobalt Drake.
It is worth noting that both Phoenix Wing and Cobalt Drake heavy weight is also the result of the added coat of paint. The paint on the contact points will come off over time, but the weight loss is minimal. Once worn, the Blade is approximately 0,1g lighter due to the paint coming off.
The heavy weight and agressive design of this Blade result in decent stamina potential, especially for an attack oriented Blade, and high attack potential. Moreover, it has great synergy with the 9-60 Ratchet, which can be lined up with Phoenix Wing contact points, increasing attack potential further.
The Attack potential of this Blade is high enough to dominate previously released Blades from the Xtreme Gear Sports system, including Hells Scythe, Dran Sword and Shark Edge. Furthermore, the three upward slanting contact points create Upper Attack potential, allowing Phoenix Wing to knock the opposing Beyblades out in the Xtreme Zone with consistency.
The inertia and attack power of this Blade make it highly versatile, meaning it can be used in mobile (Rush, Point), semi-mobile (Ball) and stationary combinations (Needle, High Needle, Orb).
Nonetheless, Taper and Needle were the most popular options shortly after the release of Phoenix Wing, which became the best counter to the popular Hells Scythe 3-60/9-60 Ball. While this Blade used to be a must have option for competitive use, it later became outclassed by Blades such as Aero Pegasus, Shark Scale, and Wyvern Hover.
Note : A second mold of Phoenix Wing was later released, weighing 39 grams instead of the initial 38 grams.
Suggested combinations
This Blade can be combined with the 9-60 Ratchet, which can be lined up with Phoenix Wing contact points. Therefore, it is recommended to check the alignement of the Ratchet “blades” and the contact points when assembling the combination. However, 1-60 became a popular option in official tournaments.
Furthermore, while the aforementioned Bits have been used with Phoenix Wing, Rush later became the most popular option. Phoenix Wing 1-60 Rush was heavily used in official Beyblade X tournament.
Final Thoughts
Phoenix Wing and Cobalt Drake are both very important releases in the Beyblade X generation. Their heavy weight and overall design result in top tier performances, making most of the previously released options heavily outclassed. However, it is now outclassed by Blades such as Aero Pegasus, Shark Scale.
Additionally, collectors may want to get an additional copy of this Blade, since the paint will come off quickly.
Therefore, this Blade is a strong addition in any Beyblade X collection.
