Description of Phoenix Wing 9-60GF

Phoenix Wing 9-60GF is a right-spin attack type combination released as a Starter, as part of the Xtreme Gear Sports system on December 10th, 2023 as a promotional Toys R’ Us pre-sale. The regular release was on December 27th, 2023. The Launcher included in this Starter is a red String Launcher.

This Beyblade is a remarkable evolution in the Xtreme Gear Sports system, featuring the heaviest Blade available alongside Cobalt Drake. Furthermore, like Cobalt Drake, Phoenix Wing is a “Metal Coat” Blade, which means it is colored with a coat of paint.

The heavy weight of the Blade creates decent stamina and high attack potential, making this Beyblade one of the best stock combinations in the Xtreme Gear Sports system.

The Ratchet introduced in this Starter is 9-60, another strong Xtreme Gear Sports Part. It is the safest option available : with only 3 small blades along its perimeter, burst risk is low. Moreover, these blades can be aligned with Phoenix Wing contact points, increasing Smash Attack power.

Finally, the Gear Flat Bit is another new Xtreme Gear Sport Part, featuring a unique design meant to make it easier for the combo to ride the X-Line, and also increase the Xtreme Dash speed and power.

The result is an agressive, powerful stock combination capable of spectacular Xtreme Dash attacks. The agressive behavior of Gear Flat can be risky, because it creates a fairly high self Knock-Out risk and overall poor stamina potential. Nonetheless, the heavy weight of the Blade makes this combo efficient against any type of Beyblade.

At the time of writing (January 2024), Phoenix Wing 9-60GF is one of the best stock combinations available.

How to Improve Phoenix Wing 9-60GF

Phoenix Wing 9-60GF is a strong attack type combination, that does not necessarily need to be modified to perform well. Apart from Cobalt Drake, most part of the available Blades lack weight to counter this combo. The Blade and the 9-60 Ratchet create great synergy, therefore 9-60 is a great option in this combo.

The heavy weight of Phoenix Wing make it a highly versatile Blade, which can have great results in any type of combination. It can be used in mobile attack type combos (with Bits such as Gear Flat, Flat or Low Flat), semi-mobile (with Ball) or stationary (with Needle, High Needle, Spike, Orb) with great success.

However, as mentioned above, the Gear Flat Bit is agressive, but also unpredictable, thus making it a risky option. Due to how versatile the Blade is, replacing Gear Flat with Ball is the safest option.

Nonetheless, Taper can make the combo effective in any type of match-up, allowing players to save Ball for another combo in their Deck. Additionally, the extra stamina provided by Taper will make the combo feel relatively safe, even against stamina/defense oriented combinations.

However, Phoenix Wing 9-60T can be countered with consistency by Knight Lance 3-60B.

Final Thoughts

This Beyblade is one of the best releases in the Xtreme Gear Sports system, introducing three great Xtreme Gear Sports Parts. The Blade and Ratchet are both top tier options for competitive players.

However, players who care about aesthetics may be disappointed by the fact that the paint on the Blade’s contact points will come off very quickly.

Furthermore, the Launcher included in this Starter is a String Launcher. While String Launchers are reliable, Winder Launchers are more powerful, allowing players to ride the X-Line with more consistency.

Phoenix Wing 9-60GF is a must have in any Beyblade X collection.
